The base fabric grid was obtained by folding and dipping. Some of the pieces done the same day ended up slightly shredded in a grid pattern. The shredded fabric was torn and layered in patches hand stitched to the grid with pearl cotton. The words, "STICKS AND STONES MAY BREAK MY BONES BUT NAMES WILL NEVER HURT ME" are spelled out in pearl cotton. The stones were gathered from our beach property on the Washington coast.
