Poison IvyConceived as a dress for my daughter, Michelle, to wear to prom, this dress was collaboration between mother and daughter. We worked together in every phase of the design process. As a team, we determined the pattern, style, color, fabric, embellishments, and accessories. The fabric was hand dyed by pouring yellow and turquoise dyes over a length of Habotai silk to achieve the subtle variation in color and pattern that reads as green. The machine quilted vine design that twists across the front of the dress was based on the leaf shapes and pattern of the poison ivy plant. It has been embellished with hand stitched purple iris beads set in a pattern similar to the tiny flowers a poison ivy plant bears.Conceived as a dress for my daughter, Michelle, to wear to prom, this dress was collaboration between mother and daughter.
