September 21-26, 2005 Montana Art Quilt Retreat with Laura Cater-Woods Cynthia's Classes Lecture/ Trunk Show - 1 to 2 hours This trunk show reflects Cynthia’s personal journey and evolution from traditional quilting into the use of textile art as a means of self-expression. Cynthia is an award winning art quilter. She will show many of her quilts and wearable art, some that have been shown internationally or in various juried national venues. Journal quilts, Artist Trading Cards, one of a kind clothing, and art quilts using a broad variety of techniques, materials and innovative designs will be included in this trunk show. Sources of inspiration, surface design techniques and references are included in this stimulating introduction into the world of Art Quilts.
Low Water Immersion Dyeing - Half day class Learn basic techniques for creating unique hand dyed pieces in rich colors and textures. Increase your stash by adding 28 fabulous hand dyed fat quarters. You will create visual texture by manipulating fabric, combining primary colors for unique shades and multi-colors.
Hands-on experiences in surface design techniques including fabric painting with transparent, opaque and metallic fabric paints, creating original rubber stamps using materials found at the hardware store, rust dyeing using rusty nails, Tyvek®, Angelina fibers, Shiva Paint Sticks, Foiling, Thermofax silk screening, resist techniques, and various types of photo transfer. Participants begin with basic foundation of techniques, adding additional layers of surface design in subsequent work sessions to create “complex cloth”. Class work may be compiled into an “altered book” style booklet for future reference. Emphasis on non-toxic materials which can be safely used at home. |
